Microsoft cut off new licenses for Windows 7 Home Premium as of Oct. 31st, according to an old blog that I came across last week, and only then-current stock would still be available for sale. Windows 7 Professional was supposed to still be available “for awhile”.
From what I can tell, that means that only computers for which Windows 7 had already been purchased would still be available from manufacturers (a.k.a. “OEMs”). While I don’t know for sure, I have to imagine that the number of computers and/or licenses available on October 31st has got to be running out pretty soon.
So, if you need to replace an old XP computer NOW and you don’t want to deal with Windows 8, you best be buying that new computer ASAP.
On the other hand, if you can wait another 6 months or so, Windows 10 is due out about then and, from what I’ve been hearing & reading, it’ll be the best of both Win 7 and Win 8 and will be worth waiting for.
